Schengen Visa Requirements

Schengen Visa Basics

A Schengen visa is a document that allows its holder to visit any of the Schengen area countries. Presently, the Schengen area encompasses 26 member countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland

If you intend to stay in the territory of the Schengen states for up to 90 days over a period of 180 days you will need to apply for a Schengen type-C visa.

Where to Apply for a Schengen Visa?

If you intend to visit one of the Schengen area member states, you should apply at the Embassy or Consulate of that country. But, in case you are travelling to several Schengen area countries you should apply at the Embassy or Consulate of the country which is your main destination. If you don't have a main destination you will need to apply at the Embassy or Consulate of the country you will arrive in first.

When to Apply?

You should apply well in advance. You may submit your visa application 90 days prior to planned date of departure.
